LOCATION & HISTORY

Nanango

Dead Cow Gully is located on our 1600 acre cattle property 11 km north of Nanango (QLD). The 6th generation property has been in the Walsh family for over 150 years, and encompasses the IONA homestead which is over 110 years old. The landscape is predominately timbered with box, blue gum, spotted gum and iron bark in the surrounding ridges which descend into partially cleared creek flats. We experience hot summers which bring spectacular afternoon thunderstorms that roll in from the Bunya Mountains to the South-West. Winters are generally quite dry and are accompanied by frosty mornings that turn into clear blue sky days.

THE STORY of Dead Cow Gully

‘Dead Cow Gully’ is named for the unfortunate beast that lost its footing close to the creek’s edge and was discovered a week later tangled in some protruding tree roots – 2 metres above the creek
